VatS 36: Città del Vaticano,Biblioteca Apostolica Vaticana, MS Cappella Sistina 36. OVERVIEW Size: 595 x 405 mm. ii + 95 + i parchment folios, modern stamped foliation, no index. Scribe: several hands from the Alamire workshop. Place and Brief History: Brussels/Mechelen. Prepared for and sent to Pope Leo X (1513-1521); possibly presented in person by Margaret of Austria, Regent of the Netherlands. Date: 1516-1518. Covers and Decoration: 18th-century restored covers of brown leather over boards, brass studs bosses and clasps with blind-tooled central diamond motif and decorative boarders; painted and inked calligraphic initials; missing folios probably contained miniatures etc.; in particular, source retains the following decorations: f. 34v: painted K with borders consisting of flower, insect and bird motifs across top and down left-hand side f. 35r: similar borders across top and down right-hand side f. 50v: elaborate stylized K similar to JenaU 5 (f. 44v) f. 51r: coat of arms of Margaret of Austria f. 66v: coat of arms of Pope Leo X - the Medici arms with apostolic keys f. 80v: stylized K containing miniature of a catafalque with cloth and a candle in a candleholder on each side (similar to JenaU 5, f. 73v).
