JenaU 8: Jena, Thüringer Universitäts - und Landesbibliothek, MS 8. OVERVIEW Size: 485 x 340, 130 parchment folios, no index, modern pencil foliation. Scribe: possibly Petrus Alamire; three text hands. Place and Brief History: Brussels/Mechlin; along with 7 other choirbooks (JenaU 2, 3, 5, 12, 20, 21 & 22) was used at the All Saints Church in Wittenburg and then transferred to Jena in 1548 where it and the other 7 choribooks formed the foundation of the Hochschule library which in turn formed the basis of the present-day Thüringer Universitäts - und Landesbibliothek. Date: before 1520s, possibly ca. 1508. Covers and Decoration: dark brown blind-tooled leather on boards with metal clasps, buckle and corners. Inked calligraphic initials for all folios which open a mass section or sub-section; opening of some masses with painted initials; one miniature on f. 6v; coat of arms of the Elector of Saxony - Frederick the Wise on f. 7.
