Masses from the Renaissance:

Look and Listen

Benedictus Appenzeller

NOTE: Olivar in his Cataleg dels manuscrits de la Biblioteca del Monestir de Montserrat (pp. 172-173) ascribes the complete contents of MontsM 765 to Benedictus de Opitiis. Some 15 or more years separate the death of de Opittis (London, 1524) and the copying of MontsM 765 (Brussels, ca. 1540). Appenzeller was employed at Brussels for the court of The Regent of the Netherlands- Mary of Hungary for the period 1535-1555. For a comprehensive discussion on the identity question of Appenzeller, Ducis and de Opitiis see: Dionys Bartha, Benedictus Ducis und Appenzeller, Ein Beitrag zur Stilgeschichte des 16. Jahrhunderts (Wolfenbüttel/Berlin 1930).
